Evacuation of 130-bed nursing home
One of the main presentations from the Pierce County High Risk Populations Disaster Planning Summit on June 9th was the January evacuation of a 130-bed health care center (nursing home). Erwin Steinlein, Director, Environmental Services, Health & Safety from Linden Grove Health Care Center provided the linked Power Point on their experience, including lessons learned.

Great presentation at the Summit. Really showed how complex and evacuation can be for nursing home. Especially, the role the first responders played.

It was obvious that his experience and the training he provided to the facility staff were the contributing factors in their ability to carry out an evacuation of this magnitude. Sharing the shortfalls they encountered and suggested ways to address the issues makes his presentation an excellent training tool.
ReplyDeleteExperience, training and exercises the keys to effective emergency response. This presentation had all the key elements mentioned. One should take note of the lessons learned and the suggestions provided by Mr. Steinlein. Simply, an great job.
